Event Inspiration: Great Gatsby Theme

JUNE 06, 2016

If I can go back in time for a short moment it would definitely be during the roaring 1920s. I love this Art Deco era due to the fashion, music, romanticism and the glamorous festivities. I would opt to live the glitzy and glam lifestyle. Every weekend I would sport a different sequin flapper dress adorned with sexy white pearls and attend luxury parties from top metropolitan centers across the country. Can you imagine having the opportunity to live an opulent life during one of the most historical periods in the early 20th century? I can certainly envision it! Well, since you can’t go back in time, doesn’t mean you are prohibited from recreating and celebrating the 1920s! Hence, this is one of the reasons why I absolutely love the recent The Great Gatsby film, based on the 1925 classic novel of the same name written by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Since the success of this cinematic masterpiece, Great Gatsby theme events are increasingly popular for both weddings and social parties. As an event planner, I personally don’t foresee myself ever getting tired of this chic theme. The options on throwing a grandiose Great Gatsby theme event are endless.  Some of us desire to throw an ultimate ostentatious party to the point Jay Gatsby himself would be honored to attend. However, you can still achieve an extravagant and beautiful Great Gatsby theme event, whether on a large or small scale just by possessing immense amounts of style. The secret is in the details! Here are a few images to provide some inspiration for a Great Gatsby event. Stay tuned this year for a Conceptions Events showcase of this Art Deco style and trend.

Real Wedding: Peacock Couture Glam Wedding

APRIL 14, 2016

Today is the anniversary of one of our favorite couture weddings. Three years ago we had the pleasure of providing our “Day of Coordination” service to our former wedding clients – Nora and Andrew. Nora was a bride who epitomized wedding planning creativity coupled with great style! She planned her entire couture glam wedding but desired someone to coordinate and manage the wedding on the actual day. Nora and Andrew hired Conceptions Events to ensure that their wedding visions and planning blueprint was properly executed on their special day (and stress free of course!). We were excited to be on board and honored for the opportunity to birth their magical dream wedding into a reality.

During our first meeting with the couple I was instantaneously impressed by all the intricate and glamorous details of their peacock themed couture wedding. The theme incorporated both peacock feathers as well as vibrant peacock colors. The wedding colors were a beautiful medley of turquoise, purple, royal blue and green, which symbolized the liveliness of their union. Every element of the wedding reflected the couple’s personalities.

Nora stunned everyone with her form-fitted ostrich feather wedding gown that captured modern romance. The wedding party sported in their attire classiness and sophistication, but one particular member stood out from the rest – Lexi (the bride’s pet dog.) Lexi wore a peacock colored tutu dress that was an absolutely show stopper!  She made a grand entrance during the church ceremony that captivated many of the wedding guests. Unfortunately, some of her fans were a bit disappointed in her absence at the reception due to the venue’s no pet policy.  Nonetheless, following the ceremony Lexi checked into a luxurious pet hotel (I can imagine the pampered treatments she received).

The wedding reception was held at Nanina’s In The Park where guests enjoyed an array of exquisite dishes, specialty cocktails and decadent desserts. The remainder of the evening consisted of an electrifying dancefloor, selfies, fun and laughter.

Her Day At Versailles – Bridal Shower

APRIL 11, 2016

I had the honor of hosting my best friend’s bridal shower 2 years ago and this was one of my favorite events planned thus far. To this day, many of her guests are still raving about her bridal shower! When she initially conferred with me regarding her maid-of-honor request I was honored but secretly was more excited about the idea of throwing her bridal shower. I knew without a shadow of doubt I wanted a sheer regal theme. It took months of planning and researching various venues before I rendered my final decision. The wait was well worth it as I found the perfect venue to host this event – a French Renaissance inspired private mansion with incomparable elegance. During my site visit with the mansion’s owner I was instantly blown away by the 24-foot ceilings, opulent hanging chandeliers, a spiral staircase and a dramatic water fountain located in the garden atrium room. Furthermore, this mansion offered several rooms to explore, ranging from a cozy fireplace in the library to even a quaint chapel! After my tour, I realized this mansion reminded me of my visit to Chateau De Versailles in France several years ago. And so my friends this retrospect of my Parisian trip was the birth of the bridal shower theme -“Her Day at Versailles.” My goal was to make the bride-to-be and her guests feel like royalty indulged by a unique experience.

I am a fanatic when it comes to attention to details. In my world, no detail is left behind when executing an event. The bridal shower invitations were DIY designed by me and were delivered in a royal gold colored box to 50 guests. I absolutely love surprising event guests. And to add more suspense, the location of the venue was not disclosed on the invitation but instead was cited as “surprise venue.”On the day of the bridal shower the guests were picked up by a surprise luxury limo service.Upon arrival at the mansion, theguests were greeted with mimosas served with personalized photo napkins of the bride-to-be and groom. And to add more touch of glam to the opening segment of the event,a live violinist entertained from the indoor balcony as the guests made their way to their table seating. The table settings were simple and adorned with DIY centerpieces I created;tall trumpet vases with white flower balls and hanging clear acrylic beads. The major highlights of the event program was a dance performance by liturgical dancers, an etiquette session with an etiquette coach, a cooking lesson by a chef (each guest received a copy of the recipe) and raffle drawings for back massages on site by a licensed massage therapist. And just when the bride-to-be thought she was overwhelmed by the ongoing surprises – I arranged for a surprise visit of her fiancé right before she opened her first gift. He arrived with a beautiful floral arrangement of red roses. This moment was so magical and emotional there was not a dry eye in the room. The event concluded with a private photo shoot of the bride-to-be and her fiancé at the master bedroom and private chapel of the mansion. She also had a wardrobe change exclusively for the photo shoot. The guests received edible chocolate mini photo frames of the couple as their bridal shower favors. In the end “Her Day at Versailles” themed bridal shower was so much fun planning and designing! If you are looking to have the ultimate bridal shower or maybe an event on a smaller scale don’t hesitate to hire Conceptions Events for your event!

Love Is In The Air Outdoor Engagement Photo Shoot

MARCH 31, 2016

Great News! Conceptions Events now offers a new service – Design & Styling services for photography shoots! We are extremely ecstatic to bring this new creative element to our packages. On August 15, 2015 we styled a wedding engagement photo shoot for one of our newest wedding clients: Lourgina and Vladimir. The outdoor photo session was held on a bright sunny day at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. Steven E. Smyth from Crystal Lake Pictures was their photographer.

It was a pleasure working with this stylish couple as they allowed me much artistic freedom to design and style their engagement photo shoot session. I brought in various props to ensure that the photos captured their natural personalities and true narrative of their love. The first scene was a romantic picnic that also included the most adorable photogenic dog. We used the scenic NYC skyline as our photo backdrop. Their wardrobe for this scene was a casual denim and white theme. The second scene was a formal and luxe look that also took place outdoors. I opted for this theme as a sneak peek of their actual wedding day theme. After the 2 hour fun filled engagement photo shoot the couple ended their day by having a romantic date at the MaritimeParc.

We are looking forward to continuing their love celebration as we prepare to coordinate their upcoming September 2016 nuptial!

Real Wedding: A Rustic Elegance Wedding with Nigerian & Haitian Flair

MARCH 15, 2016

Autumn is one of my ultimate favorite seasons of the year. I have a deep appreciation of the different colored foliage, warm apple cider, and the weather especially here in the Tri-State area. We applied various fall inspirations to develop the wedding theme “Rustic Elegance” for one of our past wedding clients-Friday and Myriame. This was a fusion wedding where two different rich cultures unified for marriage. The couple’s family and friends joyfully embraced some of the traditions from both cultures, which made this wedding such a great experience.

So many fascinating elements were incorporated for this fusion wedding ranging from traditional Nigerian attire, savory Haitian cuisine, spraying of money by guests to show their happiness for the couple and even a special Haitian Kompa dance by the maid of honor with a set of maracas.

Enjoy the photos of this amazing wedding and check out the wedding video trailer from Crystal Lake Pictures.

We wish Friday and Myriame a lifetime of love, happiness and many blessings!

Valentine’s Day Event Inspirations

FEBRUARY 02, 2016

Valentine’s Day is approaching and we all know this is the day where love and romance is observed and celebrated. Although the basic colors for this holiday are red, pink and white don’t be afraid to explore other colors to accent the traditional ones. I personally love combining the color palette red and gold when it comes to Valentine’s Day. It depicts a sophisticated and romantic balance.

When planning a Valentine’s Day event the options are endless. Here is a special tip: if you are planning an intimate small affair remember to add candles and fresh red roses. It’s simple, super affordable and adds a romantic feel to your event’s ambiance.

Here are some of my favorite Valentine’s Day event inspirations. This Valentine’s Day express your creativity and explore new concepts!
